Good things come in small packages! This little park offers major family fun. Located in a cozy little nook by the lake, Prince of Wales has everything you need to spend a pleasant day in the city with the kids.
Of course, all children love a playground. Prince of Wales Park features swings, a climbing structure, free-standing slides and plenty of sand for digging. In the summer vacation months, the lifeguard-supervised wading pool provides a great option for overheated toddlers and preschoolers. Large trees shade the pool area, making it a cool spot for a picnic even on the hottest summer days.
There is plenty of space for running around with a ball or for a game of tag. A paved roadway offers a good, safe spot to practice rollerblading or trying out that new bike. Since there is usually a strong breeze coming from the lake, the spot is popular with kite flyers. Adults can enjoy a game of tennis on the double tennis court (it becomes an outdoor skating rink in the winter).
Prince of Wales Park is on the LAMP “toys in the park” circuit, which is a project funded by the province of Ontario. Every week the local family centre staff members come to the park with a van full of ride on toys, preschool activities and a different snack each week. The program is free for families with young children.
