Ottawa Aquatics programs use following descriptions for their swimming programs:

  • Lane Swim
    Lap swimming for youth and adults only.
  • Family Swim
    An unstructured swim time open to children and youth when accompanied by an adult who participates in the water. Adults do not have to bring a child to these swims. Check with your aquatic facility for lane swimming opportunities during family swims.
  • Leisure Swim
    An unstructured swim time open to all ages. Non Swimmers under 10 and all children aged 7 and under must be accompanied by a participating adult or youth, at least 14 years of age, responsible for the direct supervision of the child and actively swimming within arms reach at all times. Children aged 8 and 9 must be tested to demonstrate their ability to swim 25M uninterrupted in order to be permitted to swim unaccompanied. During Leisure swims at wave pools, the waves will be turned off. Check with your aquatic facility for lane swimming opportunities during leisure swims.
  • Wave Swim
    A swim with the waves activated at a wave pool open to all ages. Non Swimmers under 10 and all children aged 7 and under must be accompanied by a participating adult or youth, at least 14 years of age, responsible for the direct supervision of the child and actively swimming within arms reach at all times. Children aged 8 and 9 must be tested to demonstrate their ability to swim 25M uninterrupted in order to be permitted to swim unaccompanied. (See schedule for Kanata Leisure Centre, Splash Wave Pool)
  • 50+ Vitality
    A class of light exercise followed by a leisure swim for participants over the age of 50 designed to incorporate a social component to their workout in addition to staying active and fit.
  • 50 + Swim
    Lap swimming for adults aged 50 plus.
  • Teen Swim
    An unstructured swim for teens between the ages of 13 and 19.
  • Early Morning
    Lane swimming in the main pool for youth and adults, the play pool is available for parents and tots. This program is available at Goulbourn Recreation Complex only.
  • Female Only
    An unstructured swim open to females 14 years of age and older (see schedule for Canterbury pool, Jack Purcell pool, Sawmill Creek pool).
  • Female Only Family
    An unstructured swim designed for females only and their children, boys over the age of 6 are not permitted. Adult females do not have to bring a child to these swims (see schedule for Jack Purcell pool).
  • Disabled Swim
    Designated swim for youth and adult participants with a long-term disability. Swim is free of charge for qualifying participants upon completion of a participant information form. If assistance is required in the change room, participants must bring an attendant.
  • Preschool Swim
    An unstructured swim with limited pool space allowing for playtime for preschool aged children and their parents, ages five and under.

Please note: Attendants that attend a swim to assist participants with a disability will be admitted free of charge to any of the above swims.
